Parent News for the Week Ending January 20
Reminder to hand in your Thrifty's SmileCard request form
If you didn't receive your Thrifty's SmileCard request form, you can download an extra copy here. If haven't turned your form in, please return it to the Class Parent basket in your class by Monday, January 23. Every time you load your SmileCard, Thrifty's automatically donates 5% to our school (so if you add $50 to your card, Thrifty's donates $2.50). This program goes until the end of the school year, so the sooner you start shopping, the more our school benefits! Thrifty's is located in Morgan Crossing.
And if you shop at Save-On Foods...here's something you can do with your points
Rosemary Heights Elementary has been chosen as one of two organizations supported by Southpoint Save-On Foods. What does this mean? Every 1,000 points you donate to Rosemary Elementary is worth $1, and Save-On will match the donation ($1). Also, if you take your returnables to Changes, the recycling depot next door, you can put the deposit money towards the Rosemary account. Just ask at the till.
Points can be donated at any cash register, but can only be done at the Southpoint location. This program ends with the school year in June.
(The next time you're in the store, check the wall near the coffee. You'll see our name on a poster!)
Flu Season
We've had quite a few students and staff come down with the stomach flu that seems to come around every year. Usual symptoms are a stomach ache and/or fever, followed by vomiting and/or diarrhea.
If possible, it would be appreciated if you could keep your child(ren) home for at least 24 hours after the last symptom has disappeared.
If illness is noticed in the morning it would be best for the students to remain at home for the day.
Lost and Found
We have displayed ALL the lost and found items in the hallways. These items will remain until Tuesday, January 17. Please check to see if you can claim any of these items.
Foundation Skills Assessment (FSA) for Grades 4 and 7 - week of January 16
Please read this important information regarding FSA testing.
Reporting lates and absences
Thank you to the many parents who call into the school office to report that their child will be absent or late. When calling, please remember to include the child's division number or teacher, AND the reason your child is going to be away or late that day. We're required to indicate on the attendance reports the reason for the absence (e.g. illness, medical or dental appointments, vacation). The answering machine is available 24 hours a day for your convenience at (604) 541-1613.
Jump Club for grades K-3
The Jump Club tradition continues at Rosemary Heights. Students in grades 1-3 are invited to join in the fun every Friday morning in the gym for the next few weeks from 8:00 - 8:30 a.m. Kindergarten students are invited to jump at noon Fridays.
In order to keep traffic running smoothly, and for the safety of the students, please do not park in the drop-off area. If you are taking your child(ren) into the gym for Jump Club, please park in spaces provided in the parking lot. This will help other parents and staff entering and leaving the parking lot. Thank you for your cooperation with this important matter.
Hot Chocolate sale benefiting Free the Children
On Friday, January 20 after school, the Events team will be holding a hot chocolate sale. All proceeds will go to "Free the Children".
Cost is $1.00 per cup. Marshmallows are $0.25 extra. Please bring your own cup or travel mug.
Starbucks Coffee Mornings: next coffee morning is Friday, January 20
Be sure to stop by the school on Friday, January 13 for a cup of coffee or tea, generously donated by the Alder Crossing (Choices) Starbucks. For a suggested donation of just $2, you can fill up your mug and save yourself a trip! Paper cups will also be available. Proceeds will go towards PAC initiatives like our playground, arts and math programs, and more. And next time you're in the Alder Crossing Starbucks, be sure to thank them for their support!
