Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat

Go, go, go, go! Under the direction of Al Pichler, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's enduringly popular musical is coming to Rosemary Heights Elementary.

This production will feature students from K-7. Audiences will be charmed with Joseph's excitement, energy, and toe-tapping music.

Information regarding ticket sales and dates will be sent home shortly.

Costume management has begun for the musical production being performed at the end of May and we still need clothing racks to keep the supplied costumes organized. Every child in the school will have a costume to wear so the more we have, the smoother dress rehearsals and performances will go. If you have any clothing racks we can use until June 1, please either bring it to the school Monday, May 7 (at drop off or at noon).

Report Cards - May 3

Report cards will be issued Thursday, May 3.

As parents may be aware, the BCTF and the Provincial Government have been involved in a labour dispute this year.

In April, the Labour Relations Board ruled that teachers have to issue formal report cards, but they do not have to include learning outcomes. Therefore, for this reporting period, report cards will contain basic information only about your child's progress.

If you have any questions about your child's 2nd term report, please contact your child's teacher.

Jump Rope for Heart

A heartfelt thanks to all of you for helping to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Jump Rope for Heart. Rosemary Heights raised a total of $4,266.03! Prizes will be sent to the school from the Heart and Stoke Foundation for the students that participated in the fundraising.

Jeans Day

Jeans Day raised almost $450 for Children's Hospital. Way to go, Rosemary!

Starbucks Coffee Mornings: next coffee morning is Friday, May 11

Be sure to stop by the school on Friday, May 11 for a cup of coffee or tea, generously donated by the Alder Crossing (Choices) Starbucks. For a suggested donation of just $2, you can fill up your mug and save yourself a trip! Paper cups will also be available.

Movie Night at Rosemary Heights

A very special “Freedom Friday” event has been planned for Friday, February 3rd. The T.E.A.M. Managers will be hosting a movie night for the Rosemary Heights community in the school gym from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The feature film will be The Smurfs movie. Tickets will be sold for $2.00 per person. Sales will begin on Friday, January 27th. Hot chocolate and popcorn will be sold for $1.00 each during the movie night. At the end of the evening, one lucky viewer will be selected to take home the Smurf DVD to keep! Please mark this special date on your calendar. Money raised from this event will also be donated to charity.

Flu Season

We've had quite a few students and staff come down with the stomach flu that seems to come around every year. Usual symptoms are a stomach ache and/or fever, followed by vomiting and/or diarrhea.

A few children have vomited in the classroom. While this is never expected, it becomes challenging for teachers and students as they have to relocate to another room for cleaning by District Staff. Our medical room can accommodate only one student at a time.

If possible, it would be appreciated if you could keep your child(ren) home for at least 24 hours after the last symptom has disappeared.

If illness is noticed in the morning it would be best for the students to remain at home for the day.

Foundation Skills Assessment (FSA) for Grades 4 and 7 - week of January 16

Please read this important information regarding FSA testing.

Reporting lates and absences

Thank you to the many parents who call into the school office to report that their child will be absent or late. When calling, please remember to include the child's division number or teacher, AND the reason your child is going to be away or late that day. We're required to indicate on the attendance reports the reason for the absence (e.g. illness, medical or dental appointments, vacation). The answering machine is available 24 hours a day for your convenience at (604) 541-1613.

Visitor Badges

Thank you to the many parents that sign into the school office when they are visiting the school. We are missing many of the tags from the school office. As these are very important to the safety of the students while in school, we would appreciate them being returned if you accidentally took one home. Thank you.

Early Dismissal Days Cancelled

The following early dismissal days are cancelled: Wednesday, February 8 and Thursday, February 9. Friday, February 10 is a pro-d day and children do not attend school.

Jump Rope for Heart

The Jump Rope for Heart event will take place on Friday, February 24. The envelopes and handbook were distributed to the students on Thursday, January 26. The deadline for returned envelopes will be Wednesday, February 29.

Jump Club for grades K-3

The Jump Club tradition continues at Rosemary Heights. Students in grades 1-3 are invited to join in the fun every Friday morning in the gym for the next few weeks from 8:00 - 8:30 a.m. Kindergarten students are invited to jump at noon Fridays.

In order to keep traffic running smoothly, and for the safety of the students, please do not park in the drop-off area. If you are taking your child(ren) into the gym for Jump Club, please park in spaces provided in the parking lot. This will help other parents and staff entering and leaving the parking lot. Thank you for your cooperation with this important matter.

Starbucks Coffee Mornings: next coffee morning is Friday, February 3

B.C.'s new Education Plan: how education is changing

The Ministry of Education recently unveiled a new education plan for B.C. that puts students at the centre of their learning. The new system aims to be more flexible, dynamic, and adaptable to better prepare students for the 21st century. Parents are invited to read the plan and watch a video, and then participate by sending in comments, questions, and ideas. Visit www.bcedplan.ca to find out how education is changing in B.C.

Have you ever dreamed of meeting a member of the Canucks? We all have. Luckily, Rosemary Heights Elementary had the opportunity to fulfill our dreams. On November 18, 2011 Mason Raymond and Alex Burrows from the Vancouver Canucks visited our school. Filling the school with hockey spirit, they taught us that if we just believe all our dreams and hopes can come true. 14 lucky students were able to ask Mason Raymond and Alex Burrows 7 great questions each. Alongside this visit from the Canucks, our school has raised a spectacular amount of food items donated towards the South Surrey Food Bank. It was a wonderful day for Rosemary. GO CANUCKS GO!!!
